Aviation sector could be reopened by the usage of antigen self testing kits, says chief scientific advisor

According to the government’s chief scientific advisor, rapid antigen tests may help people to skip the mandatory hotel quarantine and it may help revive the aviation industry safely. Director general of Science foundation Ireland, Professor Mark Ferguson had called for immediate action on rolling out pilot schemes for antigen testing. Rapid antigen testing kit is used by a person himself to check whether he is infected, but the person need not go to a laboratory to find out the final results.

These self testing measure is not as accurate as PCR tests but more cheaper, which costs only between €5 and €9. More cases show positive results which have a difference of almost 1000. Prof. Ferguson said that modelling from the UK showed serial antigen testing was effective as quarantine in finding and isolating individuals. If the uploading of results are delayed or failed, a follow up reminder will be sent to the user and designated staff will contact you.
