According to recent data, Barbie has topped the list of the year’s highest-grossing movies in Ireland and the UK.
Barbie earned £67.5 million in its first three weeks, surpassing ‘The Super Mario Bros,’ which brought in £54.6 million. Barbie’s revenue will shortly eclipse the record of £83.7 million held by ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ which was last year’s highest-hit movie. Barbie will be ranked among Ireland’s top 10 all-time highest-grossing movies if it outperforms or matches the total.
The comedy-drama film, which was directed by Greta Gerwig, features Margot Robbie as a Barbie doll.
‘Oppenheimer’ from this summer has also made the list of highest-grossing films. In its two weeks, Oppenheimer earned £39.2 million in Ireland and the UK, surpassing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (36.7) and Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse (30.4) to claim third position. American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer was a key figure in the development of the atomic bomb. Christopher Nolan is in charge of directing the Robert Oppenheimer biopic. The main character Oppenheimer is portrayed by Irish actor Cillian Murphy.
