All designated states from the country’s mandatory hotel quarantine list have been removed, the Irish government confirmed. With effect from September 25th, no more hotel quarantine is needed for travellers to the country. The move comes after the success of vaccine roll-out plan in Ireland and the resumption of international travel.
On the last stage there were only six counties in Ireland’s mandatory hotel quarantine (MHQ) list and all of them were in South America. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan’s latest advice encouraged the government to take action to end the quarantine system, said Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
During the whole period of MHQ, 10,294 people used the quarantine system and 593 of them tested positive for Covid while their stay. The system was introduced during the peak of Covid spread in the country and hugely helped in preventing the virus spread, Donnelly said.
Though the hotel quarantine system is ended, the current travel regulations will be continued. Negative-PCR test results for the unvaccinated and home quarantine for travelers to the country will be remained until further notice.
