The Bihar Jharkhand Association of Ireland (BJAI) recently organized a vibrant multicultural celebration of Holi, the festival of colors, in Naas, Co. Kildare. The event, held on March 23, 2024, at the Caragh Community Centre, brought together members of the community from diverse backgrounds to partake in the joyous occasion.
Attendees were treated to a variety of activities and performances, starting with the lighting of diyas and the singing of national anthems, symbolizing cultural exchange between India and Ireland. Distinguished guests, including Senator Vincent Martin, Lord Mayor Bill Clear, Deputy Mayor Seamie Moore, Local Councilors Bob Quinn and Peggy O’Dwyer, and Ciara Dunne, Local Election Candidate, Naas, County Kildare, graced the event and emphasized the importance of community integration and bilateral relations.
Children showcased their creativity through drawings and arts, while adults entertained with Indian and Irish songs. The traditional Bihari folk singing style, Fagua, added to the festive atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed a delectable array of traditional foods and participated in raffles, while a live DJ kept spirits high with Bollywood and regional music.
The highlight was the traditional Holi playing, where participants joyfully smeared each other with colors, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring.
