In the forthcoming Budget 2024 announcement on October 10, the government is set to address the pressing cost of living crisis with additional financial support. The focus will be on social welfare recipients, and here’s a breakdown of the groups eligible for bonuses and double payments:
- Fuel Allowance: Recipients will receive a €400 cash boost in November to assist with heating costs during the winter.
- Disability Allowance: Those receiving Disability Allowance will receive a €500 lump sum payment in November.
- Living Alone Increase: This additional payment for people living alone and on certain social welfare payments will be provided to those aged 66 and over or under 66 receiving specific payments.
- Child Benefit: Qualifying families will receive a double payment, with eligibility extended to children aged 16-17 in full-time education, training, or with disabilities.
- Working Family Payment: Recipients of this weekly tax-free payment for low-income employees with children will receive a €500 lump sum payment in November.
- Carer’s Support Grant: A €500 lump sum payment will be granted to carers, including those receiving Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance.
These measures aim to alleviate financial burdens and improve the well-being of those relying on social welfare. Additionally, a double payment for all social welfare recipients before Christmas is anticipated. Welfare rates are set to increase by at least €12 per week, offering further support during these challenging times.
