The Cabinet meets today to discuss comprehensive support measures for Storm Éowyn victims, including a proposed ‘Extreme Weather Event Assistance Scheme.’ This new initiative would provide aid to homes, community organizations, farmers, and businesses affected by severe weather events.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has requested departmental updates on storm response following his Roscommon visit, where he witnessed communities struggling with power outages and water shortages. The Cabinet will review support measures across housing, social protection, and business sectors.
According to The Journal, the scheme, committed to in the Programme for Government, would complement existing humanitarian assistance and flooding programs under Social Protection. It aims to address rising climate risks and extreme weather impacts.
Additionally, the Cabinet will approve 23 junior ministerial appointments, with Fianna Fáil receiving ten positions and Fine Gael eight. Addressing criticism over gender representation in senior ministries, Martin indicated that gender balance would be addressed through various appointments, including ministers of state, Dáil committees, and senators.
