Child Benefit Payment Increase & Boost in Social Welfare Payments In 2024 Budget

Dublin – Social Justice Ireland has called for significant changes in the upcoming 2024 budget, emphasizing the need to raise social welfare payments by a minimum of €25 and increase the Child Benefit Payment to €190. As families in Ireland grapple with the mounting cost of living, the committee aims to provide essential financial relief to those on low incomes and tackle child poverty head-on.

In its proposal, Social Justice Ireland highlights the urgency of addressing the welfare of Ireland’s children, emphasizing that the Child Benefit Payment should see a €50 increase to reach €190. The organization believes that this measure will help alleviate the ongoing struggle against child poverty in the country.

While there are reports that Social Welfare Minister Heather Humphreys is considering one-time lump-sum bonus payments, Social Justice Ireland warns against such a budget-busting approach. Instead, they advocate for a sustainable increase in the current social welfare funds to provide long-term support to vulnerable individuals and families.

The 2024 budget presentation is scheduled for October 10, where these proposals will be discussed and evaluated. As the cost of living continues to rise, the decisions made in this budget could significantly impact the well-being of Irish families and children.
