Construction sector leads Irish job market demand in 2024 amid skills shortage, says report

Construction industry professionals were among the most sought-after workers in 2024, reflecting a significant skills shortage in the sector, according to new research from hiring platform IrishJobs.

Site managers emerged as the most in-demand role, with a 39 per cent increase in employer interest compared to the previous year. The research pointed out that the five most in-demand professionals were dominated by the construction sector.

Accountants claimed the second spot as the most sought-after role outside the construction industry.

Other professions in the top ten most in-demand jobs include quantity surveyors, engineers, nurses, and electricians.

In the IT sector, automation engineers led the demand, while data scientists topped the list in the science sector.

Risk managers, on the other hand, were the most sought-after professionals in banking, reflecting a heightened focus on regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.

The insights are based on data from IrishJobs TalentBank, a database comprising over 1.4 million job candidates.
