Planning permission for a data centre in Dublin has been denied by An Bord Pleanála following an appeal process that lasted almost 18 months.

Equinix Ireland Ltd’s proposed facility on the Nangor Road in Clondalkin was rejected on the grounds that it would be “inappropriate and contrary to national climate obligations.”
According to The Irish Examiner, the data centre would have been powered by an on-site gas-power generator, which appears to have been a key factor in the planning authority’s decision to refuse permission for the development.
The rejection comes amid growing scrutiny of data centres in Ireland due to their significant energy consumption and impact on the national power grid.
