A new €5.5 million segregated cycle track has officially opened along Dublin’s south quays, running from George’s Quay to Aston Quay. The 1-kilometer route was inaugurated Thursday morning by Dublin’s Lord Mayor Emma Blain.

The project, which began construction in March 2024, has been completed ahead of schedule and under budget, with Dublin City Council noting the final cost came in 18 percent below projections.
According to The Breaking News, the upgrade includes wider footpaths, improved junctions, and dedicated cycling infrastructure along the River Liffey in Dublin’s city center.
“By giving more space to active travel, we are connecting communities while improving the cityscape,” Lord Mayor Blain said at the opening ceremony.
Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien highlighted the broader benefits of the investment, stating: “Projects like this bring substantial benefits to society, public health, and the environment. Most importantly, they contribute to reducing carbon emissions, supporting a more sustainable future.”
The new route aims to enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians while improving transportation efficiency in central Dublin.
