€50m broadband investment in Ireland by SIRO, creates 250 jobs

SIRO, a broadband network operator, has announced the launch of its complete fibre network to over 70,000 households and businesses in south Dublin and the Dn Laoghaire Rathdown local authority region.

SIRO stated that it will invest €50 million in the project, which will take around two years and will employ approximately 250 employees throughout the network development.

The areas involved include Dún Laoghaire town, Foxrock, Blackrock, Stillorgan, Cabinteely, Deansgrange, Carrickmines, Dundrum, Ballinteer, Sandyford, Killiney, and Shankill.

SIRO, an ESB and Vodafone joint venture, is currently developing a 100% fibre broadband network in 154 towns and cities across Ireland.

“Poor broadband is not exclusively a regional issue,” said John Keaney, SIRO Chief Executive.

“Anyone who lives in or runs a business in our capital and its suburbs can also face connectivity issues.

“SIRO is working to address this issue, giving residents and businesses of South County Dublin access to world-class broadband.”

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Local Authority CEO Frank Curran welcomed the announcement.

“This type of high-speed connectivity infrastructure directly affects thousands of homes and businesses in a very positive way,” Mr. Curran said.
