A home fire in West Clare overnight claimed the life of an elderly woman.
According to reports, a neighbour who saw the fire at the home in Farrihy near Kilkee called the fire department just before 11 o’clock on Thursday.
Along with paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and garda, units from the Kilkee and Kilrush stations of the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service attended to the event.
When the fire had extinguished and it was safe to enter the building, the fire workers found the woman’s body inside the building. During the fire, the home sustained significant damage.
The woman’s body was transported to University Hospital Limerick, where an autopsy will be performed.
As part of the garda investigation into the incident, a technical inspection of the location is anticipated to be conducted this morning. There is no indication that the fire is suspicious.
