For the first time since June 2021, Fine Gael has surpassed Sinn Féin to become Ireland’s most popular political party. The latest Business Post/Red C opinion poll shows Fine Gael, led by Prime Minister Simon Harris, holding 21% of public support, despite a 1% drop since the last survey.
Sinn Féin, under opposition leader Mary Lou MacDonald, now has 20% support, a 3% decrease. Fianna Fáil has seen a significant rise, gaining 4% to reach 19% support.
A new political force, Independent Ireland, formed in November 2023 by Cork South West TD Michael Collins and Limerick TD Richard O’Donoghue, entered the poll with 5% support.
Other parties’ standings are as follows: Independents at 15% (-4), the Green Party at 5% (+1), Social Democrats at 5% (=), Labor at 3% (-1), People Before Profit-Solidarity at 3% (=), and Aontú at 3% (=).
The survey, conducted between June 21 and 26, included 1,000 adults.
This shift marks Sinn Féin’s first setback in popularity in over two years, highlighting the dynamic nature of Irish politics.
