Finland Tops UN’s Happiness Index for 7th Year; Ireland Ranks 17th

For the seventh consecutive year, Finland clinches the title of the world’s happiest country in the UN’s annual World Happiness Report. Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden closely follow suit, with Ireland securing the 17th spot, down from its previous 14th position. Notably, Afghanistan falls behind among the 143 surveyed nations. Costa Rica and Kuwait make their way into the top 20, landing at 12th and 13th places respectively. Larger nations like the United States and Germany settle at 23rd and 24th places. The report highlights that none of the world’s biggest countries feature among the happiest. Only the Netherlands and Australia, with populations exceeding 15 million, crack the top ten, while Canada and the UK, with populations over 30 million, secure spots in the top 20. Rankings are based on various factors including life satisfaction, GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and corruption.
