First Winter Storm “Agnes” Set To Strike Ireland

Ireland braces itself for the arrival of the first named storm of the winter season, “Storm Agnes,” set to make landfall today. Meteorological authorities are issuing warnings to prepare for potentially severe weather conditions.

Met Éireann has issued an Orange Wind Warning for eight counties in Ireland, as Storm Agnes bears down on the island. Counties Waterford, Cork, and Kerry are bracing for heavy rainfall, with EVTs placed on Orange Rain Alert.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, and Waterford are under the threat of strong winds between 9 a.m. and 5 pm. Meanwhile, heavy rain is expected to pummel Waterford, Cork, and Kerry from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Additionally, a Status Yellow Rain Warning has been issued for Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Wicklow, along with a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Leinster, Munster, and Galway. These warnings will take effect at 7 a.m. and remain in force until midnight.

Met Eireann has warned of heavy rain, which may lead to localized flooding as Storm Agnes moves north across Ireland, posing risks of travel disruptions, power outages, coastal flooding, and reduced visibility.

As the country braces for Agnes’s impact, residents are advised to stay informed and take precautions to ensure their safety.
