Major Drug Bust In Wexford: €140 Million Worth Of Drugs Seized From Submerged Boat

In a dramatic operation off the coast of Ballyconnigar in the Blackwater, Ireland, authorities have intercepted a fishing boat carrying a staggering €140 million worth of drugs. The boat had been under surveillance by the Garda Anti-Drugs and Organized Crime Squad before running aground on a sandbar late on Sunday night.

As the boat found itself stranded, Irish law enforcement agencies sprang into action, surrounding it with an impressive display of resources, including military helicopters, Coast Guard vessels, and military aircraft. The RNLI and Coastguard also played crucial roles in the operation, which unfolded amidst challenging weather conditions marked by strong winds.

During the six-hour operation, two individuals, believed to be foreigners, were detained from the submerged vessel. Despite the adverse conditions, Irish authorities successfully thwarted what could have been a major drug smuggling operation.

The operation was not without its complications, as bundles of cocaine tumbled into the water from the damaged boat and remain unrecovered. The two arrested individuals, who reportedly spoke limited English, are currently undergoing questioning by gardaí.

The heavy military presence in the area persists, with concerns that cocaine bundles may wash ashore on the Wexford coast. Authorities remain vigilant as they work to secure the area and prevent any potential drug-related hazards.
