Four people died in a multiple car collision in Co Galway on Thursday. The incident happened at 7.40 pm on the M6 motorway at Poolboy, Ballinasole. Three vehicles were involved in the collision, the Garda confirmed.
A couple and their infant child travelling in one vehicle are among the dead. Another person who lost his life was the driver in another vehicle. It is said that this vehicle entered the motorway from the wrong direction.
The driver from the third vehicle involved in the accident is still being treated in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Entry to M6 motorway junctions 14 and 15 were closed following the accident and forensic investigations were carried out.
The wrong side entries to motorways are causing many accidents in the country recently. The Garda are appealing drivers to take extra care while entering to motorways and make sure they enter from the right direction to avoid casualties.
