Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a warning on undeclared traces of cannabis components in edible sweet products. Garda and the Revenue’s Customs Service had traced information on this as many incidents had occurred where consumption of cannabis oil by teenagers who later suffered adverse health problems.
Presence of THC which is a psychotropic drug is controlled in Ireland and usage of this will not be tolerated by the government under Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977. Sweets with cannabis contents have been sold widely through online sites. FSAI is cooperating with HSE, Garda and Revenue to detect and seize the products containing cannabis which are sold. FSAI also urges everyone who could influence children about the dangers caused by these products.
