Prices at the petrol pump fell in September, according to the latest figures from AA Ireland, contrary to the expectation that fuel prices would rise following the reinstatement of excise duty on August 1.
According to AA Ireland’s latest fuel price survey, petrol prices dropped by seven cents to an average of €1.74 per litre, while diesel prices were down by seven cent at an average of €1.67 per litre.
September proved to be a good month for motorists across Ireland, with drop in fuel costs being attributed to the decline in crude oil prices.
Electric vehicle (EV) owners are benefiting as well, with the annual cost of running an EV dropping by €58.
The average cost of covering 17,000 km per year is now estimated at €857.77, further encouraging the adoption of EVs.
Further cuts are expected in the coming months, as Electric Ireland plans to reduce some of its rates starting November 1.
