Garda seize several Cyber Crime group domains capable of cyber attacks across the world

The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau seized several domains used in ransomware attacks in a significant operation targeted the IT infrastructure of a Cyber Crime group. The operation helped to prevent a lot of potential cyber attacks across the world, the Garda said through their Facebook page.

‘GNCCB have subsequently deployed a ‘splash screen’ onto the seized domains in order to notify any potential victims of the likelihood that their system has become compromised by Ransomware. This will enable them to take appropriate security measures.’ said the report.

‘A process has also commenced between the Garda Síochána and their Law enforcement Partners at Europol and Interpol, to provide the details of the visiting URL’s to the member countries to ensure that the infected systems are appropriately decontaminated.’ it added.

A ransomware attack on the HSE systems by hackers, presumed to be of Eastern Europe had left the health care system devastated and there were calls to tighten the cyber security in the country. The attack in May was the biggest of its kind in the history of Ireland, affecting almost every part of the healthcare system.
