Gerard Hutch, charged for murdering David Byrne of Kinahan cartel appeared before court on Wednesday night. He was presented before a non-jury special sitting of court after bringing back from Spain on tight security by Irish Air Cops and Garda around 8 pm last night. Presiding judge Mr Justice Tony Hunt, sitting with Judge Sarah Berkeley and Judge David McHugh, fixed a trial date for Hutch and the four co-accused on 3 October 2022.
Gerard Hutch also known as Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch was arrested last month in Spain following a European warrant by the High Court. He was then brought back to Ireland in a Casa 235 military plane for Regency shooting and murder trial amid tight security.
The 58-year-old is charged with murder of David Byrne (34) who was shot dead at Regency Hotel in Dublin in 2016. The Garda believe the actual target was Kinahan Cartel’s Daniel Kinahan but an associate of the cartel, Byrne became the victim. The attackers were disguised as garda officers.
The Hutch-Kinahan feud, began in 2015 has claimed 18 lives so far. Reports say the feud was begun after the Kinahan gang killed Hutch’s nephew Gary Hutch back in 2015. Gerry’s elder brother Eddie Hutch Senior had been shot dead following the Regency incident and Gerry was last seen in Ireland for the funeral of Eddie.
