Twitter posts which criticize India’s way of handling the Covid 19 virus spread had been asked to delete by the Indian government. The Covid 19 cases has been very high in the past days. As per the legal requests from Indian government, the tweets have been withheld by them, said a Twitter spokesperson.
The government cited the Information Technology Act 2000 to suspend the tweets put by filmmaker Avinash Das, lawmaker Revnath Reddy and West Bengal minister Moloy Ghatak. Twitter will consider their own rule book and the local law before deciding on whether to delete the post or not. If the tweet violates the Twitter rule, the post will be removed and if it stands by the Twitter rule and violates the local law, the access to the tweet will be withheld.
Twitter had already informed the people who tweeted on a legal order against their post and on withholding their content.
