The death toll following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti has risen to 1,297. The rescuers are trying to find survivors from the wreckage and the authorities have given a flood warning after Tropical Depression Grace reaching the country anytime soon.
The quake started around 8.30 am local time on Saturday injured at least 5,700 people and caused huge damage to many residences and other buildings. It happened at the south-western region of the Caribbean country, almost 125km away from the capital city of Port-au-Prince. The US Geological Survey said aftershocks were there on Sunday too.
The Prime Minister of Haiti Mr Ariel Henry had declared a state of emergency for one month throughout the nation following the quake. The 2010 earthquake which recorded a 7.0 magnitude had killed almost 316,000 people in the surroundings of the capital in the country.
