Irish youngsters aged 18-20 will get free Interrail tickets to travel Europe, The European Commission said. The commission today launched a new DiscoverEU competition for free travel rail passes to 60,000 Europeans aged from 18 to 20 years and Irish people can also apply for free tickets from today.
People born between July 1st, 2001 and December 31st 2003 can apply from today (October 12) at 12pm until October 26 at 12pm. The travel dates will be between March 2022 and February 2023 upto 30 days. 2022 is also celebrated as the European Year of Youth.
The applicants will get a mobile travel pass which is valid for one year. Travellers can change their departure date according to their convenience within the year.
DiscoverEU is an EU initiative based on a proposal from the European Parliament, which secured its funding for 2018 through a Preparatory Action. The initiative focuses on young people turning 18 as this marks a major step towards adulthood.
