Homeless Figures Remain 17% Higher Than Last Year, Despite Correction In Dublin Numbers

In a recent report, it has been revealed that homelessness in the state remains a pressing issue, with 12,691 individuals registered as homeless in August. While this number represents a slight drop from previous months, it is essential to note that figures for Dublin were overstated due to an error, making the situation seem less dire than it is. The statistics are particularly grim for the capital city, where 9,269 people, including nearly 3,000 children, are currently experiencing homelessness.

Despite the correction in Dublin’s figures, today’s total still stands 17% higher than it did at the same time last year. In response to the data inaccuracies in Dublin, the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive has appointed an independent reviewer to ensure the correctness of future reports.

It’s important to highlight that these totals from the Department of Housing do not account for asylum seekers, refugees, women in refuge centers, rough sleepers, or the hidden homeless population, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to address this ongoing crisis.
