Indian company Takachar has been selected as one of the five winners of the first-ever Earthzone Prize. The prize also called ‘Eco Oscar’ is instituted by Prince William of UK to encourage innovators who work to reduce the environmental challenges we face. A prize money of £1 million will be given to each winners and they will also get help to grow their innovation worldwide.
Takachar is based in Delhi and won the prize in ‘Clean Our Air’ category. Their achievement is for creating a portable machine that turns the stubble from agriculture into fertilizer, fuel and other special chemicals. With the help of the machine, the farmers can now recycle the agriculture waste rather than burning them which causes severe air pollution. It also helps them to sell these products in the market to earn extra income.
Burning of stubble is a main issue that causes high air pollution in the parts of North India and many parts of the world.
“Award will enable us to scale our solution worldwide and help us realise our vision of reducing air pollution…” co-founder of Takachar Mr. Vidyut Mohan said.
He also said air pollution is even reducing life expectancy in many areas of the world.
The technology of Takachar is very cheap and portable. The machine can be attached to tractors used in farms. It reduces smoke emissions up to 98%.
