Indian nurse killed, six injured in two-car collision in Mayo

An Indian nurse in her sixties was killed in a road accident on Thursday afternoon in west Mayo.

Lizy Saju, originally from southern state of Kerala, was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision between the vehicle she was traveling in and another on the N59 road between Newport and Mulranny at around 4.30 pm.

Two other occupants of the same vehicle, a male and female, are currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries at Mayo University Hospital.

Additionally, four occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash were also taken to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The route is currently closed to traffic pending an investigation by forensic collision officers.
