Ireland’s Only Alcohol-Free Pub Shuts Down

Ireland’s only alcohol-free pub shuts down amid rising costs.

The Virgin Mary Bar on Capel Street, Dublin was the only alcohol-free pub in Ireland and had started its business in 2019 and only served non-alcoholic drinks such as mocktails, beers, and wines. The bar was popular with health-conscious punters, sober people, and baby showers.

But this bar has shut its doors for good after just four years in business, due to skyrocketing costs of running a business. A representative for the bar told the Sunday Times that “spiraling costs were a big factor for us”.

In a statement released on social media, The Virgin Mary Bar wrote: ‘Dear friends, our time at 54 Capel Street has come to a close. But this marks an exciting new chapter for us… The Virgin Mary Bar is going mobile!!

‘As part of the wider @tvmcollective franchise operation, we are thrilled to be bringing our new TVM On The Road concept to events, festivals, pop-up venues, and much more around the island of Ireland!

‘So get ready to see a lot more of us in the coming months. We will keep you updated on all of our exciting plans right here.

The group confirmed the news that they weren’t going to be reopening the City Centre spot and instead will be taking the show on the road.
