Young Irish cricketer Harry Tector has moved up to a No. 7 position in the most recent ICC men’s ODI batting rankings, which is also the best position for an Ireland batter. Tector’s 206 runs during the three-match series against Bangladesh have helped him achieve this career-best position.
In three ODIs, the 23-year-old Tector had scores of 21, 140, and 45. While it wasn’t enough to stop Ireland from losing 2-0, he did add another 72 rating points to his total, bringing it to 722, which is also the highest total for a batter for Ireland’s men’s team. Paul Stirling’s 697 in June 2021 was their previous record-breaking performance.
Tector surpassed Virat Kohli, Quinton de Kock, and Rohit Sharma, among others, who are presently ranked Nos. 8, 9, and 10 on the table, to get beyond them. With 886 rating points, Babar Azam has maintained his position as the best hitter in ODIs.
He has scored 769 runs in 13 innings since 2022 at an average of 76.90 and a strike rate of 90.89, including four hundreds and as many half-centuries. Paul Stirling’s 352 from 12 innings for Ireland during this time period is the next-best total. When Ireland competes in the World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe in June, Tector will have an opportunity to raise his standing even more.
Mark Adair, Tector’s teammate, also made significant advancements in the most recent update, moving up 33 positions to No. 33 on the all-arounders’ list and 30 spaces to No. 31 on the bowlers’ list. During the Bangladesh series, Adair had a seven-wicket performance along with 40 runs from two innings.
