In a bid to enhance public confidence in Ireland’s public transport system, Senator John McGahon of Fine Gael has introduced the Improved Rail Passenger Bill. The legislation promises a full refund for train passengers facing delays exceeding one hour. For delays ranging from 20 to 39 minutes, a 25% refund will be granted, while a delay of 40 to 59 minutes will warrant a 50% refund. The move aims to address the prevalent issue of train delays and boost the efficiency of Irish Rail operations. Senator McGahon stressed the need for an improved public transport system, asserting that adherence to schedules is crucial for passenger confidence. The proposed law, if enacted, is anticipated to not only financially compensate affected passengers but also act as a deterrent to delays and cancellations.
