Irish Summer Surprise: Heatwave Hits With 26°C Highs, Thunderstorm Warnings

Ireland is set to bask in a “mini-heatwave” with temperatures soaring to 26°C after weeks of autumn-like weather. MET Eireann, the national forecaster, predicts warm and sunny conditions for the rest of the week, possibly extending into the next. However, there’s a twist in the forecast, as the heat could trigger thunderstorms, with Wednesday and Thursday identified as the most likely days for outbreaks.

The week begins with mostly sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 22°C to 26°C, with a possibility of coastal fog. Tuesday follows suit, with a few scattered showers mainly in the southwest and west. Wednesday sees some cloud cover, scattered showers, and rising humidity. Overnight, thundery showers are expected, mainly in the east and southeast.
Thursday continues with scattered heavy or thundery showers, alongside warm or very warm sunshine. Friday will feature a mix of clouds and warm spells of sunshine, with a few scattered showers primarily in southern areas.

The sudden burst of summer is a welcome surprise for Ireland but is accompanied by the potential for thunderstorms.
