Kuruvilla George Ayyankovil appointed National Vice President of Young Fine Gael

Kuruvilla George Ayyankovil, a Malayali, has been officially appointed National Vice President of Young Fine Gael, the youth wing of Ireland’s ruling party. The appointment follows the resignation of outgoing Vice President Caolan Maguire.

The decision was made in line with Article 5 of the Young Fine Gael constitution, which states that the candidate who secured the highest support at the most recent national conference is entitled to assume the vice-presidential role. Kuruvilla received the strongest mandate from members at that conference.

With this appointment, Kuruvilla will also be nominated to the Fine Gael National Executive Council, the party’s highest decision-making body. Young Fine Gael plays a key role in shaping party policy and influencing government direction.

Leadership with public service and technical depth

Kuruvilla previously served as National Secretary of Young Fine Gael, where he was credited with strengthening internal governance and improving national coordination. In public service, he has been appointed Peace Commissioner for Dublin and surrounding counties by the Department of Justice.

Academically, Kuruvilla is a PhD researcher at Trinity College Dublin, focusing on artificial intelligence legislation. He has published research on the EU AI Act and also advises a Member of the European Parliament on AI policy. Professionally, he works as a software engineer at Workday.

Reacting to his appointment, Kuruvilla said:
“I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by members across the country. It is a great honour to take on this responsibility, and I am committed to ensuring that the voices of young people are strongly represented at the highest levels of the party.”

The appointment is being viewed as a significant step in strengthening youth representation within Fine Gael’s top leadership, highlighting a new generation that blends political leadership, public service and technological expertise.
