Limerick City’s latest attempt to boost tourism has hit an unexpected snag. The €1.2 million Wayfinding and Orientation Signage Project, aimed at guiding visitors through the city’s attractions, has inadvertently become a source of confusion due to spelling errors in the Irish language text.
The project, which saw 70 new pedestrian signs erected throughout Limerick, was intended to enhance the city’s appeal to tourists. However, eagle-eyed locals quickly spotted mistakes in the Irish language portions of the signs, raising concerns about the accuracy of the information being presented.
Limerick council has acknowledged the issue and promised to rectify the errors. A spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the spelling mistakes and are taking immediate steps to correct them.”
According to the Irish Examiner, this linguistic mishap serves as a reminder of the importance of attention to detail in public projects, especially those aimed at representing local culture and heritage. As Limerick works to fix these signs, tourists and residents alike can look forward to a more accurately guided journey through the city’s streets.
