The football magician Lionel Messi will leave his home club ‘Barcelona,’ the club authorities said in a statement. Messi joined Barcelona when he was just 13 years old in 2004 and now completed more than one and half decade playing for them.
“Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).”
“As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.” the statement read.
The agreement between both parties had expired on June 30.
The club authorities expressed their gratitude towards the Argentinian star by saying, “FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”
Throughout his club football career, the 34-year-old Messi is known for is greatest contributions to Barcelona. He has won four Champions League crowns, 10 La Liga titles seven Copa del Reys, and eight Supercopa de Espanas in Barca jersey. It is widely believed that Messi, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will sign up for Manchester City. Behind the curtain, PSG are also started negotiations with him.
