Gardai in Bailieboro are investigating a deadly hit-and-run that happened in Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, and involved a man pedestrian in his 50s.
Shortly after 12 pm on Friday afternoon, the body of a man was discovered by a road user along the N3 near Billis Bridge in the townland of Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan.
It is believed that the event took place sometime between Thursday at 10 p.m. and Friday at 12 p.m.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene after the arrival of the Garda and emergency services. His body has been transported to Cavan General Hospital’s mortuary. The State Pathologist’s Office has been informed.
After a thorough investigation, it was found that the man had been hit by a car that left the scene.
Forensic collision investigators have completed a full technical examination of the scene and the road has reopened.
Gardaí in Bailieboro are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward, and to any person who is aware of a vehicle with unexplained damage in the wider Cavan area.
