Man dies in Co Westmeath collision as three others hospitalized

A man in his 20s has died and three others have been hospitalized after a collision on the N4 in Co Westmeath on Friday morning.

The collision happened between a car and an SUV at around 9.20 am on the N4 at Ballinafid.

A passenger in the car, a man aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the mortuary at Mullingar Hospital.

The driver and a second passenger in the car, both male and aged in their 20s, were shifted to hospital. The passenger is currently in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital, while the driver remains in Mullingar Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV was the sole occupant in the vehicle was a man in his 60s. He was taken to Tullamore Hospital with serious injuries.

‘Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and any road users with video footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to them’, a statement from Gardaí said.
