Minister Humphreys unveils new programme to boost employment for people with disabilities

Grants of up to €25,000 Available for Workplace Adaptations

The Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TD, has launched “Work and Access,” a groundbreaking employment programme designed to eliminate barriers for people with disabilities in the workplace. The launch event took place at the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone, attended by representatives from the disability sector and employers.

Key Features of Work and Access:

  1. Workplace Needs Assessment Grants: Up to €2,500 for identifying necessary workplace supports.
  2. Workplace Adaptation Grants: Up to €25,000 for employers to modify their premises.
  3. Work Equipment Grants: Up to €12,000 for assistive equipment or technology.
  4. Personal Reader Funding: For work-related reading assistance for the visually impaired.
  5. Communication Support: Assistance with job interviews, inductions, meetings, and reviews.
  6. In-Work Support Funding: For work coaches or specialist support.
  7. Disability Equality and Inclusion Training: Funding for employer training on disability and inclusion.

Minister Humphreys emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for people with disabilities:

“Investing in others works. It works for business and it works for the person with a disability. Work and Access provides a wide range of practical supports that I believe will make a real and positive difference in people’s lives.”
