New initiative to support female entrepreneurs in rural areas

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has announced the continuation of its support for female rural entrepreneurship through the 2024 Rural Innovation and Development Fund. After a competitive public procurement process, Fitzsimons Consulting has been selected to deliver a programme aimed at fostering the growth of nascent female entrepreneurs in rural areas.

This new initiative will provide support for up to 50 female entrepreneurs, running from October 2024 to April 2025. The programme emphasizes peer learning, believing that early-stage entrepreneurs benefit most from interacting with and learning from one another. Participants will have the chance to connect with each other and receive guidance from Lead Entrepreneurs.

The Rural Innovation and Development Fund was established following the recommendations of the Commission for the Economic Development of Rural Areas (CEDRA). The fund aims to support innovative, small-scale pilot initiatives that explore the diverse potential of rural economies. This latest programme continues the Department’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent in rural communities, helping to drive economic growth and innovation.
