Construction workers set for pay increase

Over the upcoming months, construction industry employees can expect to see a rise in their hourly compensation.
This follows the approval by Minister of State for Employment Affairs and Retail Business Neale Richmond of a Labour Court recommendation for new minimum pay and pension contribution rates for workers in the construction industry.

The Sectoral Employment Order will boost the legal minimum wage for apprentices, including the time they spend in education.

According to a statement from Mr. Richmond, the hourly wage for craftspeople will increase to €21.49 as of September 18.
Workers in category A, such as bank employees, steel fixers, crane drivers, and heavy machine operators, who have four years of experience and an advanced Scaffolding Card, will be paid €20.86 per hour.

Skilled general operatives in Category B who have more than two years of experience will be paid €19.35 per hour.
“This SEO will make a real difference to workers in the sector not only by increasing rates of pay but also by providing certainty for workers,” the Minister of State said.

“The inclusion of a legally binding disputes procedure will also ensure that any disputes that arise in the sector can be addressed effectively and fairly,” he added.
