New Plan Aims To Improve ‘Feelings of Safety’ In Dublin’s North Inner City

A groundbreaking Local Community Safety Plan (LCSP) has been introduced in Dublin’s north inner city, designed to bolster residents’ sense of security and combat crime and antisocial behaviour. The LCSP, a collaborative effort involving various state agencies, local community groups, and businesses, tackles critical issues such as drug outreach programs, street audits, and strategies to address drug-related problems. Dublin City Council will undertake street audits to enhance lighting and cleanliness, while local organisations will work to combat illegal dumping. Additionally, commercial properties on key thoroughfares like O’Connell Street, Moore Street, Talbot Street, and Capel Street will undergo review and renewal efforts.

The comprehensive plan encompasses 50 distinct actions, representing a concerted effort to bring about positive change in a community where incidents of minor assaults, robbery, and drug-related offences significantly surpass national averages. This initiative also entails an increased Garda presence in areas identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour and drug use. Furthermore, the LCSP extends its reach to offer new programs to young, repeat offenders and extends drug outreach initiatives. By fostering collaboration among local authorities, businesses, and community members, this plan seeks to enhance the safety and well-being of Dublin’s north inner city residents.
