Over 900 drivers caught speeding so far during August bank holiday weekend in Ireland

Gardaí on Monday revealed that over 900 individuals have been caught speeding so far on Irish roads during the August Bank Holiday weekend, RTE reported.

Among these cases, some involved significantly excessive speeds, posing a substantial risk to road safety.

One of the most notable incidents occurred at Seapoint Promenade area of Galway, where a driver was clocked at 105 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Similarly, a motorist was caught traveling at 134 km/h in a 100 km/h section of the M7 in Ladytown, Naas, Co Kildare.

Out of the 946 drivers caught speeding, a staggering 160 violations occurred within the last 24 hours.

In addition to speeding offenses, gardaí have arrested 127 individuals on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Ireland has witnessed a spike in road fatalities this year, with a total of 115 people killed in road accidents so far.
