Irish rowers Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy on Friday retained their Olympic gold title with an emphatic win in the final of the men’s lightweight double sculls at Paris 2024.
The duo finished with a time of 6:10.99 to defend the title they won at Tokyo 2020 Games.
This is the third time O’Donovan has won a medal at the prestigious tournament, with the first being a silver with his brother Gary at Rio 2016, followed by gold in Tokyo and now in Paris.
The duo’s truimph is Ireland’s second gold medal of the tournament after swimmer Daniel Wiffen won the 800m freestyle on Tuesday.
Italy and Greece took silver and bronze with timings of 6:13.33 and 6:13.44, respectively.
