Authorities have approved planning permission for the construction of Ireland’s first National Cricket Stadium at the Sport Ireland Campus in Dublin, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the country.

Final approval was granted yesterday for the first phase of construction work on the stadium, which will be developed in two stages. The initial phase will focus on the playing field and essential ancillary facilities.
The first phase will include construction of the main cricket field, seating capacity for 4,240 spectators, a high-performance training center, and a dedicated building for players and match officials. Essential infrastructure including parking facilities will also be developed during this stage.
The stadium holds particular importance for Cricket Ireland as the country prepares to co-host the 2030 T20 World Cup. Brian McNeice, chief executive of Cricket Ireland, said the new facility is expected to provide Ireland with the opportunity to establish itself as one of the major teams in world cricket.
Beyond cricket, the stadium will be designed to accommodate other social gatherings and community events, making it a multi-purpose venue.
The development will be located on approximately 30 hectares of land at the Sport Ireland campus in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The project represents a major investment in Irish sports infrastructure and is expected to boost the profile of cricket domestically and internationally.
