Rain warning issued for Wicklow as Met Éireann warns of flooding risk

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Wicklow, with the potential for localised flooding across parts of the eastern region.

The warning comes into effect at 11am today and will remain in place until 3am tomorrow. Forecasters say Wicklow will see spells of heavy rain, leading to difficult travel conditions and possible flooding in low-lying areas.

Elsewhere, the weather will be generally dull, wet and breezy, with rain spreading across much of the country and turning heavy at times. The north is expected to see the best of any longer dry spells, with daytime temperatures ranging from 5 to 9 degrees.

Tonight will remain wet and breezy, though some drier intervals are expected in southern areas as winds ease. Clearer skies may bring patchy mist, fog, frost and ice, with overnight temperatures dipping to 3 to 6 degrees.

Sunday will start dull and misty, with scattered rain mainly affecting Ulster and Leinster, before turning somewhat drier later in the day. Temperatures will again range between 5 and 9 degrees.

Rain is forecast to return more widely on Monday, becoming heavy at times before clearing eastwards later in the evening. A cold, clear night is expected to follow, with temperatures dropping as low as -2 degrees.

Met Éireann is advising people, especially motorists, to take care and stay updated on weather alerts as conditions develop.
