The Irish Red Cross Creeslough Community Support Fund just passes the €1m mark after five days.
The Irish Red Cross set up the fund, which is supported by An Post and Applegreen, as well as many other major firms and thousands of citizens around the nation.
The Creeslough Community Support Fund will help people who have been bereaved, wounded, rendered homeless, or have lost their jobs as a result of the tragedy.
In order to complement the courageous work already being done by state and local authorities, the Irish Red Cross has offered its volunteers in the Creeslough region to provide help as needed.
The charity will collaborate with the Creeslough community to ensure that funds raised for the new fund are utilised efficiently to assist individuals affected in the coming weeks and months.
Donations for the Creeslough Community Support Fund will be accepted at all 920 Post Offices across the country. Donations can be made in cash or by debit card, and there is no fee for this.
Applegreen, which has over 200 stores in Ireland, will promote online donations to the Creeslough Community Support Fund at all of its locations and has also donated a €50,000 first commitment to the fund. Applegreen will also publicise the fund through its website and social media channels.
“Thanks to the amazing heartfelt support of the Irish people and many companies the Creeslough Community Support Fund is now at €1,022,000 which was reached in five days. “a spokesperson said.
