Foreign citizens including those of Irish will be able to leave even after the deadline on August 31 from Afghanistan, the government officials confirmed. 90 countries including US and UK have issued a joint statement which reads, the Taliban regime in Afghan have assured them about allowing continuing rescue missions even after the deadline proposed earlier.
“All foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorisation from our countries will be allowed to proceed in a safe and orderly manner to points of departure and travel outside the country.” reads the statement.
The European counties had already showed concern over the deadline while US denied appeal to extend the date after August 31 from the Taliban.
Many citizens including those from Ireland are still due to flee amid the Taliban take over in Afghanistan. The US-led allies had started evacuation missions about two weeks ago, but still a large number of people are reaching the Kabul airport to escape from the war-torn country.
After the Islamic State terrorist attack that left 180 people killed, there are reports that many are unable to make it to the airport. There were also reports that the Taliban terrorists had been stopping refugees and foreign nationals from reaching the airport.
It is believed that about 60 Irish citizens are still in Afghanistan along with 15 others who have the right to live in Ireland.
