Roderic O’Gorman announces Irish Green Party leadership bid

Roderic O’Gorman, Ireland’s Minister for Children and Integration, on Wednesday threw his hat in the ring to become the next leader of the Green Party.

The move comes a day after Eamon Ryan announced that he will step down as the Green Party chief in the wake of poor performance in the recently held local and European elections.

In a post on X, O’Gorman said: “I am running for leader, after 24 years of Green Party membership, to build a party that can win across this country, and deliver on our ambitions.”

O’Gorman statement also comes after deputy leader Catherine Martin ruled out running for the position.

As per Green Party rules, any member who can receive the support of 50 other members can contest the leadership race.
