Dublin: The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has proposed a 10% increase in the fees for National Car Test (NCT), driving tests, commercial vehicle tests, and driving licenses. This proposal, aimed at addressing the RSA’s financial challenges, has been submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.
Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal the RSA’s request to raise these rates. If approved, the NCT fee will rise to €60.50. The RSA argues that this increase is necessary to manage its financial difficulties. Without the rate hike, the RSA has requested significant financial aid from the government.
The proposed rate hike has raised concerns about the additional burden on motorists. The RSA’s move highlights the ongoing financial strains faced by the authority and its need for increased revenue to continue its operations effectively. The decision now rests with the government, which must balance the RSA’s financial needs with the public’s concerns about rising costs.
