Salmonella has been confirmed in eight poultry farms across the country, according to the Department of Agriculture.
Working with the Food Safety Authority and the National Reference Laboratory for Salmonella, the Department of Agriculture is currently trying to identify what is causing the outbreak.
“This investigation is ongoing. Eight poultry flocks have been confirmed as positive for Salmonella Typhimurium. The flocks are located in a number of different locations,” it said.
According to the Department of Agriculture, all of the flocks affected have been restricted and are under departmental controls. It’s understood that some flocks have been culled.
The department has not yet provided details regarding the number of birds affected by the outbreak or how the contamination may affect supply chain operations for supermarket foods.
