Scarlett Johansson and Walt Disney Studios have reached a settlement in a dispute over the OTT release of her movie ‘Black Widow.’ Johansson sued the Studio for breaching release agreements and alleged that it had made her loss significant amount of remuneration.
Black Widow had a release simultaneously in cinemas as well as the studio’s OTT platform Disney+. But Johansson alleged that the agreement was for an exclusive theatrical release and her remuneration was agreed upon the box-office performance as she also served as an executive producer for the movie. If the movie had an OTT release, it would cause a loss of normal remuneration, Johansson had said.
The character Black Widow is originally from Marvel Cinematic Universe and Disney was purchased the distribution rights of the movie.
“I am happy to have resolved our differences. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team.
“I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.” Johansson said after the settlement.
The details of the settlement has not been disclosed.
Alan Bergman, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, said: “We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror.”
It was revealed Johansson had been paid 20 million dollars for playing the central character in the film. The movie has collected €378 million so far from the cinemas.
